World Snow Day
Alpsport on the World Stage
Alpsport has joined World Snow Day and has come out with a bang. Here is an email we received directly from FIS.
World Snow Day this is the second phase of a project initiated by FIS in 2007 called 'Bring Children to the Snow'. The concept of bring children to the snow is as the name suggests to bring children to the snow. The campaign began in 2007 with the concept being approved by the FIS Council. The first phase called Snow Kidz being launched in 2009 and continues to have incredible successes here in Europe. The second phase is World Snow Day. World Snow Day takes the Bring Children to the snow campaign global. To summarise the World Snow Day in a sentence it is the biggest day on snow all year, in which simultaneous activities will occur all around the world on the 22nd January 2012 to celebrate all things snow and promote the future with snow. The day is not one off event. FIS have planned to continue World Snow Day for many years to come. World Snow Day is primarily aimed at children but is also aiming to include everyone from every age group to begin enjoying the snow and continue enjoying it for years to come. If you would like to find out more about more about World Snow Day simply visit the website at www.world-snow-day.com.
So far the campaign has gained overwhelming momentum. We have over 50 confirmed World Snow Day event organisers across 19 countries. Some of them include:
- Vail/Beaver Creek (USA)
- Lake Placid (USA)
-Crystal Mountain (USA)
- Innsbruck (AUT) during the Youth Olympic Games
- St Moritz (SUI)
- Kitzbhul (AUT)
- Lahti (FIN)
- Stoneham (CAN)
- Oslo (NOR)
- Falun (SWE)
-Castello Di Fiemme (ITA)
- Monte Amiata (ITA)
And now Sydney Australia. Alpsport West Ryde will play host to the Sydney World Snow Day celebration. On January 22nd Sydneys largest independent snow equipment retailer will be staging an exclusive sale. To my understanding the details of the sale are being finalized as we speak but if you would like to take part in this global event make sure you sign up to the Alpsport VIP club. But it doesn’t end here.
Tuesday 4th October 2011 saw Alpsport being represented at the highest level. Each year the Hilton Hotel Zurich plays host to the annual International Ski Federation (FIS) Autumn Meetings. During the meetings names such as Bernard Russi, Ken Read and Chas Guldemond and the International Olympic Committees Olympics Day co-ordinator Jessy Newman were all present. In addition to this the meetings were also attended by Gian Franco Kasper, president of FIS and Sarah Lewis the Secretary General. One of the biggest questions of the meetings was ‘whats happening in Australia for World Snow Day?’ The answer was simple; Alpsport and APS Boardroom. The response the delegates was very positive. One delegate stated ‘Australias participation in World Snow Day shows that not only a country not known for its snow participating but also that they are thinking about the future of the skiing and snowboarding, the children’.
I hope everybody in Sydney and Australia is having a great October. We look forward to seeing you at World Snow Day in Sydney.
Thank you to Andrew Cholinski (FIS World Snow Day co-ordinator) for his words.
