Ski Boots

Alpsport are one of the largest retailers of ski boots in New South Wales, catering for every foot type and level of skier. So whether you have baby feet or feet built like a clown we will have the boot for you. Our range of ski boots stretches from the entry-level, for that first timer, all the way to the most advanced boots on the market.

Liners

Modern boot technology has facilitated the introduction of heat-mouldable liners which allows the boot liner to conform to your foot shape. Companies such as Nordica and Rossignol have also added neoprene in select boot liners in the area around the toes. This material allows the skiers toes to easily protrude through the front of the liner and remain unrestricted, which ultimately allows for a more comfortable fit.

Flex

One area in which ski boots vary is according to each manufacturers flex index. This translates to a varying level of control and power transferred to the ski. For those heavier or more advanced skiers, a boot with a higher flex rating (i.e stiffer) is appropriate. This allows more power to be transmitted to the ski, allowing for the maximum feel and control. Alternately, for those lighter or more conservative skiers, a boot which has a lower flex rating is more appropriate. Flex is however a subjective measure and should only be considered as an indicative measure as flex ratings vary between companies and there is no industry standard.

Technology

It is an exciting time with the further introduction of new technology. This year sees the introduction of Salomon’s Custom Shell, that allow the boot shell to be heated and formed to your metatarsal contour for a personalised fit. This is achieved through the new patented Kaprolene™ material which easily deforms when warmed, but keeps its shape when cooled.

Other manufacturers including HEAD and Tecnica, have made their mark on the all-mountain boot market by offering a range of boots which fits the typical Australian foot type, accommodating a narrower heel profile, whilst still retaining a medium to wide fit in the forefoot area. Examples of these boots are the HEAD Edge series and Tecnina Dragon Series.

Women

We understand that women are just as interested in skiing as men! All boot manufacturers invest significant amounts of time and money into research and development, which has allows them to formulate boot designs catering to the subtle differences amongst different skiers feet, this includes the difference between men's and women's lower leg and foot. For example, women’s calf muscles typically finish lower than men's. For this reason, many ski boot liners for women are cut lower in the cuff to allow for this, resulting in a higher level of comfort.

Junior

We also stock a range of junior boots. These range from entry level ski boots, to slightly higher level models for those kids racing in interschools championships.

Cold Feet

Many people experience cold feet when skiing and there is a number of reasons that this might be occurring and there are some simple ways to solve it. So come in and our boot fitters can have a look at your specific issues. If needed we can install boot warmers from Hotronics, these are battery powered heated pads that go under the toes to make sure you always have toasty warm toes even when it is -20oC.

Other than temperature some of the common reasons people experience cold feet include; buckles or power strap being done up too tight and restricting blood flow. Poor technique can also be a factor, with many intermediate and beginner skiers in tough ski situations tending to lean back in the boots, resulting in circulation being cut off to the foot and also sore toes due to the foot being jammed into the front of the boot.

Good socks will help promote circulation in your boot. When owning your own boots you should be using thin socks with no tubing/structure to them. Alpsport recommends using a wool or wool blend sock for maximum warmth and comfort. Cold boot equals cold toes, whenever possible  you should try and keep your boots at room temperature, not hot. Leaving boots in the car at -5oC will result in cold boots and ultimately cold feet.
