Ski Clothing

Technical outerwear is vital to the enjoyment of any ski trip – there is nothing worse than being cold and wet! Depending on the temperature and weather of your destination, different types of ski clothing will be appropriate.

In Australia or New Zealand, our conditions are typically characterised by mild temperatures close to 0 degrees. With warm temperatures plus the high humidity, it is important to have outerwear that has a medium to high level of waterproofing in order to stay dry. The comparatively warm temperatures also increase the importance of having outerwear with a good level of breathability. The same principles of waterproofing and breathability also apply to gloves, of which we have a full range for all ages and levels.

Typically, those skiers looking to visit Australian resorts will use a shell-style jacket, and use various warm layers underneath. This is a versatile method, due to the ability to change how warm you are with layering to match the highly variable conditions.

When travelling overseas to countries like Europe, Japan, the US or Canada, the weather and snow conditions differ greatly from Australia or New Zealand. It is significantly colder and often the snow level and frequency of snowfalls is greater. High level waterproofing and breathability is recommended for these destinations. Many skiers still use layering under a shell jacket as the preferred option, but for extra warmth, some skiers will choose a jacket which is insulated. This provides consistent warmth in destinations with colder climates.
