So, come in and have a chat to our friendly staff about your new set up, whether it is to replace your straight 200s with a new age carve ski and some lightweight plastic boots or you are trying to keep up with the latest technologies.

Alpsport carries all the major brands; Black Diamond, Fischer, G3, K2, Atomic, Salomon, Scarpa, Garmont, Rottafella, Diamir Freeride (AT), Dynafit light (AT), Marker (AT), Alpina and Leki.

It is important to match up all elements of your setup. If you have light weight boots, you will need to be on lightweight skis and bindings. If you choose to go for a heavier ski, you will need a bigger boot to drive the ski. It is important to maintain balance throughout your setup, either all heavy or all lightweight, otherwise you may end up breaking something along the way.

As a camping store, we also carry all the necessary accessories for your next trip, including; gloves, bags, tents, thermals, light weight jackets and pants. More specific needs to the snow will be satisfied with our range of climbing skins from G3 and Black Diamond and telescopic poles from Leki and Black Diamond. Rental cross-country equipment is also available, for more information see the rental page.

Light Weight Touring

If you are planning on doing longer trips in the backcountry, then a light weight set up is the way to go. With new technology you do not need to use the long skis that were once the standard.

Alpine Touring

Many people who do not wish to learn how to telemark or simply prefer the alpine descent style will go down the alpine touring option. This enables you to tour with a released heel and then descend in the normal alpine way with your heel locked down.

The most important part of your alpine touring set up is your boots and bindings. We stock alpine touring boots from Scarpa, Garmont & Dynafit. An alpine touring boot differs from a normal alpine ski boot, featuring a much lighter construction in both shell and liner. A feature that is seen in many intermediate or comfort downhill boots is a basic ski walk mode, alpine touring boots however feature a true walk mode, allowing for far better performance in both ski and walk modes. Many will also have Vibram soles (rubber sole), making it easier to walk around on icy rocks or other awkward surfaces that you may encounter in the backcountry.

These boots may not be able to be used in your standard alpine bindings due to the different nature of the rubber soles. So, you will need to have an alpine touring binding, these are light weight with a heel release function that enables the boot to pivot off the toe, whilst still having a full release function when the heel is locked down for the descent. Alpsport stocks alpine touring boots from Garmont, featuring the Endorphin and Megaride and Scarpa.
